Kathmandu. Nepal Telecom’s ‘4G service’ has come into operation at Haatsinja of Jumla, the origin of the Nepali Khas language.
The 4G service has come into operation at Guthijyula bazaar area of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality from today.
Paras Pujara, chief of Nepal Telecom office in Jumla, said that the service has come into operation after installing a new tower there. The new tower will provide 4G service to various areas of ward no 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality.
The tower will serve Gauri, Okharwada, Haat Sinja, Simpati, Ludku, Guthijyula Bazaar, Baduwalwada, Barkudiwada, Sanjelwada, Jach and Godinga, among other areas. Solar batteries are currently being used for the operation of the tower.
Office chief Pujara said that the service has been delayed due to disruption of electricity from the national grid even though it was more than two months since the tower was installed.
Nepal Telecom has said that the tower was brought into operation through solar system for the time being as the electricity could not be connected from the national transmission line.
The government has given priority to expansion of telecommunication services in remote and touristic areas. As per the plan, the fourth G service will come into operation in Badimalika Temple area of Bajura within this week. According to Nepal Telecom, a study is underway for the expansion of 4G service in the Sagarmatha Base Camp area.
Earlier, 4G services had been extended to various places in high mountainous regions. Currently, the 4G service is in operation at an altitude of 3,900 meters above sea level in Lhan of Tripurasundari Municipality-6 and Dunai area of Thulibheri Municipality-1. Similarly, the service has already started at an altitude of three thousand four hundred meters at Olangchungola of Taplejung.
The government plans to expand its services to other remote areas of the country as well where access to communication services is weak. Expansion of telecommunications infrastructure has been prioritized with the objective of providing quality communication services to all citizens by bridging the digital divide.
Currently, the process of constructing about one thousand six hundred new mobile towers and related sites has been initiated to expand the access and quality of telecommunication services throughout the country. KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom is preparing to invest more than six billion rupees in the current fiscal year for the expansion of services and quality improvement in the rural areas.
