Kathmandu. World Leprosy Day is observed on the last Sunday of January. This day is celebrated on the last Sunday of January every year. This year’s slogan:
“Leprosy is curable, the real challenge is the treatment of the patient,” he said.
Around three thousand new leprosy patients are found in Nepal every year. Nepal had declared leprosy eradication in 2010, but new cases are still being found. In the year 2081/82 alone, the number of new leprosy patients was 249.
The symptoms of leprosy should not be known when touching or seeing a gray, light red spot on any part of the body. The government has been providing free medicines for leprosy. Since it is a communicable disease, it can spread to others if seen in the family or community, but it takes a long time to infect.
Lack of timely diagnosis and treatment can lead to disability in the patient. Leprosy patients need to take medicines regularly for six months, one year or two years, depending on the condition.
Director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Dr. Dr Roshan Neupane said, “To eradicate leprosy, it is necessary to identify, treat the infected on time and spread public awareness. ”
