Samir, Yasmin get citizenship in mother’s name after a decade

. Samir Khan and Yasmin Begum of Beni Municipality-7 have been granted Nepali citizenship in the name of their mother after a decade of waiting. The District Administration Office Myagdi on Tuesday granted citizenship cards to Samir and Yasmin in the name of their mother Maniraja Begum.

Sameer had applied for citizenship 11 years ago and Yasmin had submitted the application for citizenship from the administration to the Ministry of Home Affairs eight years ago.TAG_OPEN_p_7 Assistant Chief District Officer Kul Prasad Acharya said it has been possible to issue citizenship in the name of mothers after the implementation of the second amendment of Nepal Citizenship Act-2063 BS and the fourth amendment to the regulation.

Yasmin’s mother Maniraja Begum is a Nepali citizen and her husband Salim Khan is from Kolkata, India.TAG_OPEN_p_6 Although he got married about 34 years ago, Maniraja has been running a make-up business living in Beni. Salim Khan has said that he has renounced his Indian citizenship and has already voted in Nepal’s elections.

Sameer and Yasmin were deprived of employment, employment and foreign employment even after completing their higher education as they did not get citizenship despite having their birth registration in the erstwhile Arthunge VDC.TAG_OPEN_p_5 They said that they felt that they were real citizens only after getting citizenship.
