Kathmandu. Former Madhes Province Chief Rajesh Ahiraj has been convicted in a rape case.
A single bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Chandra Kanta Poudel on Tuesday found him guilty in the case. The sentence will be determined at the next hearing, the court said.
Advocate Khem Prasad Adhikari argued on behalf of the victim. A total of 14 defendants, including advocate Vijay Mishra, argued on behalf of the defendants.
A case was registered against Ahiraj at the District Police Range, Kathmandu on January 17, 2081 BS. Although the FIR was filed, the police did not seek permission from the court against Ahiraj. The police had obtained permission to arrest him from the Kathmandu District Court on April 9, 2081.
It is alleged that on May 19, 2081, Ahiraj repeatedly raped the victim when no one was in the room. The victim said that after the incident, he threatened to kill someone.
Ahiraj was the chief of Madhes Province from 7 Falgun 2020 to 32 August 2021. Ahiraj was arrested on July 19, 2082 on the charge of rape.
Rajesh Ahiraj (Rajesh Jha) is a former chief of Madhesh Province, journalist and Madhesi activist. He was the editor and publisher of Madhesh Vani Weekly and has a PhD in Madhesh Movement and Madheshism. He was appointed the chief of Madhesh Province on February 7, 2020 during the tenure of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
