Kathmandu. More than 2.61 lakh drivers have not paid the fine to the state treasury.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the drivers will be deprived of services provided by the Transport Management Office.

Drivers who fail to pay such fine will not be able to avail the services provided by the Transport Office for the purchase of new vehicles, renamsari (sale of vehicles), renewal of driving license and other services provided by the Transport Office.

After the driver failed to pay the fine for a long time, the process of stopping the service has been initiated based on the details sent by the traffic police to the Transport Office. Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said that all services will be stopped until the fine is paid.

Provision has been made that these services can be retrieved only after paying the fine amount in full. The Transport Management Office has made it mandatory for the drivers to prove that they have paid the amount of traffic fine to the state treasury before availing any new service. The process of informing the rest of the people through mobile message (SMS) has been started to collect the fine amount.

According to the traffic police, the move has been implemented to make the campaign to deposit the fine amount in the state treasury, to develop a culture of traffic rules and to maintain road discipline.

Spokesperson Subedi said that this provision is expected to be effective in discouraging the tendency of not paying the amount to the state treasury due to traffic rule violation. Kathmandu Traffic Police Office has urged drivers to follow the traffic rules and regulations.
