Kathmandu. Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the national football team, has been renewed until 2030 after Egypt’s historic performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a statement on Wednesday that the board of directors had approved the renewal of the contracts of head coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan.
In this World Cup, under the captaincy of Mohamed Salah, Egypt made history by reaching the round-16 (round of 16). Egypt is playing in the World Cup for the first time since 2018.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Egypt took a 2-0 lead against Argentina. Argentina scored three consecutive goals in 13 minutes to make it 3-2 to reach the quarter-finals.
Hossam Hassan, 59, was appointed Egypt’s head coach in February 2024. Under his captaincy, Egypt reached the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He previously said he had been managing the team without a formal national agreement since February this year.
Hossam led Egypt to its first win in World Cup history with a 3-1 win over New Zealand in the group stage. Egypt defeated Australia on penalties in the first match of the knockout stage to win the knockout stage for the first time in World Cup history.
