Kathmandu. Cristiano Ronaldo has said that his last FIFA World Cup will end without a trophy. However, he said he would not make a hasty decision on his future with the Portugal national team.

Cristiano Ronaldo told reporters after Portugal crashed out of the World Cup after losing 1-0 to Spain in the round of 16 and said he had no regrets.

“It’s sad to be out of the World Cup like this. I tried my best. My conscience is clear, it was my last World Cup. Now I will spend some time with my family and think about the future. I will not take any decision on the basis of emotions,” he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo said he was not a “impulsive decision-maker”. Recalling his international journey, he said Portugal had never won any big title before him. His side won the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League twice.

“I’ve won three titles for Portugal. Before I joined football, Portugal had never won a trophy. For me, winning Euro 2016 is as big an achievement as winning the World Cup,” he said. Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez has announced his departure from the team. Cristiano Ronaldo praised Martinez as a “great coach and a good person”. “It’s been a pleasure working with him. His contribution to Portugal is commendable. I wish him all the best for his future endeavours,” Ronaldo said.

“It’s always painful to miss out on the World Cup,” he said, adding that Portugal had done well throughout the tournament and the result could go to any team.
