Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) has clarified that the details of children were mistakenly included in the organizational report presented at the party’s general convention. Bipin Kumar Acharya, who was elected general secretary from the first general convention held in Chitwan, said that the party made a mistake in the party.

“Our serious attention has been drawn to the news published and disseminated by some media that 35,257 people below the age of 18 are members of the party, quoting the statistics of the organisational report presented in the first general convention of the RSP,” reads the press release.

“The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is fully committed to the constitution, the Act Related to Political Parties, the prevailing laws and the values of keeping children free from political activities,” the statement reads. According to the RSP, the preliminary details of those who had applied for the digital membership system but did not get ‘final approval’ were presented as raw data in the general convention.

According to the preliminary investigation, there may be a difference in the age details due to typographical errors, wrong choice of calendar system or other technical reasons while filling up the application form, as there is an open provision for anyone to apply for membership online. The RSP has taken this issue seriously and expressed its commitment to enforce technical control to prevent such errors from happening again in the days to come.

The RSP has stated that it will develop a system to automatically reject the details of those below 18 years of age by reviewing the existing membership system and re-examine the details that have already been verified. The clarification came after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a letter to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the issue of making children below 18 years of age as party members.

In a letter written by the EC on Monday, the EC has urged the government to provide details about the party membership at the earliest, reminding that distributing party membership to children below 18 years of age would be against the prevailing Nepal law and Nepal’s international commitments.
