Kathmandu. Most of the private petrol stations in the Kathmandu Valley are facing shortage of petrol after the slash in the price of petroleum products.
Many petrol pumps have stopped selling due to lack of petrol. They have closed the pump saying that there is no petrol in the shutter.
However, there is a long queue of vehicles at some government and private pumps in operation. There is a long queue at the petrol pump of Nepal Police in the Kathmandu Valley while the petrol pump around Baneshwor has been closed.
Similarly, petrol pumps have also been closed in districts outside the Valley. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has reduced the price of petroleum products.
The price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 20 per litre and diesel and kerosene by Rs 30 per litre. Similarly, the price of LP gas has been slashed by Rs 100 per cylinder. However, there has been a shortage of petroleum products in the market since this morning.
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has said that there is no shortage of petroleum products in the market.
According to NOC Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur, the problem has surfaced as some entrepreneurs have not loaded petroleum products after they came to know about the reduction in fuel prices by creating an artificial shortage in the market.
He said that the NOC has started monitoring to seal the board placed in the pump saying that there is no petroleum despite the easy availability of petroleum products.
“The NOC will immediately take action against the pumps that do not sell fuel or do not load it after knowing that the price will decrease. Although there may be minor delays in the supply of fuel due to low storage capacity of some pumps, there is sufficient stock of fuel in the market,” Thakur said.
