Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that sports is an important medium to reflect physical and mental health, civilization, culture and overall development of the society.
In his address to the national gathering of Nepal Sports Federation here today, he said that the developing and smaller countries have been performing better than Nepal in world football.
He said, “Sports is necessary for physical and mental health, to reflect various aspects of the society, to introduce the civilization, culture etc. of the society.” It is also to show a picture of what society is like. Sports has an extraordinary role and importance in showing the state of society. World football is going on right now.
Countries smaller than us are doing wonders. Our ANFA has been banned for international matches. What a contradiction. Countries smaller than us are playing amazingly. Underdeveloped, developing countries have made a splash in world football, but Nepali football is banned. ’
Accusing the Nepal Football Association (ANFA) of foreign interference, Oli claimed that the ban was imposed on the international community. He also stressed the need of providing opportunities in sports sector on the basis of qualification, capacity and competition.
Stating that the potential of the players should be recognized and encouraged in the respective disciplines, he said that the expected results would not be achieved by forcibly moving forward in the disciplines lacking capacity.
Likewise, he stressed that the players should get the necessary environment for adequate nutrition, training and physical development, adding that the government’s role is important to create such situation.
Accusing the government of interfering in the ban, Oli pointed out the need to change the situation of ANFA in international competitions.
“There should not be such a situation where players are weak due to lack of food and players are not able to develop proper physical development,” he said. The government should also pay attention to this. But the government has intervened and has reached the point of banning ANFA from international matches. We must change this situation. ’
