Madhesh Province presents budget of Rs 41.13 billion

Janakpur. The Madhesh Province government has presented a budget of Rs 41.13 billion for the fiscal year 2083/84. This amount is 13 percent less than last year.

Finance Minister Bhattarai presented the budget in the Madhesh Province Assembly meeting on Monday. In this year’s budget, agriculture production, education, health and employment have been given first priority.

Key features included in the budget

A total of Rs 2.44 billion has been allocated for the development and promotion of industry, commerce and tourism. Similarly, the Madhes Province government has increased the salary of its employees by 10 percent. The Madhes Province government has also announced ‘Digital Madhes Decade’ for the period 2026 to 2036.

The state government is preparing to conduct yoga and meditation campaign in schools and public places to reduce the growing drug abuse and mental health problems.

Likewise, the Madhesh Province government has decided to conduct all development construction works in the coming fiscal year in an open and competitive manner to maintain transparency and fairness in development works.

The Madhesh Province government is going to construct a religious circuit connecting Janaki Temple of Janakpurdham, Gadhimai of Bara, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Chhinnamasta of Saptari, Rauza Mazar of Mahottari and Shivanagar of Rautahat. In the fiscal year 2083/084, the government has adopted a policy to focus investment on big and result-oriented projects rather than small and scattered projects.

With the objective of making the expenditure management more effective, it has been announced that budget will not be allocated for projects costing less than one crore rupees and the purchase of new vehicles will be banned.

The Madhes Province government has adopted a policy to complete the under-construction projects rather than the new ones. Likewise, a plan has been put forward to construct an agriculture corridor and construct an alternative bridge over the Kamala River to strengthen the marketing of the agriculture sector.
