Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Guru Prasad Baral has expressed serious concern over the Prime Minister’s statement on border in the parliament.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, Baral said that it was necessary for the Prime Minister to give a clear view on the Nepal-India border. Nepal and India share a 1,880-km border with India and a total of 8,553 border pillars have been demarcated between the two countries.

Claiming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s statement in the parliament that ‘Nepal has encroached on India’s border’ should be corrected from the parliament records, Baral said. He said that the statement would remain as a historical document in the record of the parliament and it needed clarity on it.

“I want to ask some serious questions to the Prime Minister of the country. Nepal’s geographical border with India is 1,880 kilometers. Of these, 8,553 border pillars have been fixed between Nepal and India.

Now that we are clear on this issue, as the Prime Minister recorded in the parliament, ‘Nepal has encroached on India’s borders’. It has been recorded as a historical document. Until we remove it from this record, it will remain a historical fact. The issues and contexts that the Foreign Minister has communicated to us here are not enough. ’

Stating that the clarification given by the Foreign Minister in the parliament was not enough, he said the Prime Minister himself should answer about his remarks.

Baral also urged the government to be serious to resolve the long-standing border dispute between Nepal and India. He also pointed out the need of taking initiatives to resolve the disputes related to Lipulek, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani.

He said, “No one should be held accountable for the Prime Minister’s reply. Today, the Minister from Nepal is going on a visit to China to resolve the problems between us and India, which are historically facts and evidence, including the disputes over our territory within Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. We have to create a tri-junction point. ’

Baral suggested that the Nepali ministers visiting China should raise the issue of trilateral border point and clearly present Nepal’s claim and historical facts in the international level.
