Kathmandu. The border dispute between Mugu and Humla districts has escalated.
Locals of Soru Rural Municipality and Khatyad Rural Municipality of Mugu have been facing problems in transportation of transportation of infrastructure and development construction materials after the Himali Youth Club of Bajura announced to close the Karnali Corridor for an indefinite period.
The Karnali Highway (Corridor) was completely closed on May 26 citing non-implementation of the agreement to establish a police post at Lampata of Himali Rural Municipality-3.
On April 21, the Himali Youth Club, the political parties of the Himali Rural Municipality, the District Administration Office, the District Police Office and the Armed Police Force (APF) had agreed to suspend the protest for 24 hours.
However, the demands have not been fulfilled as per the agreement and the locals have not been able to conduct an impartial investigation into the incidents of poaching, looting and vandalism. They have demanded an investigation into the incident, bring the culprits to book, provide compensation to the victims and arrange medical expenses for the injured.
Dharma Bahadur Shahi, chairperson of Soru Rural Municipality, said that locals of Soru and Khatyad rural municipalities of Mugu have been facing problems in transportation of vehicles to inter-district, transportation of food and vegetables, development of works of the two local governments of Mugu and transportation of infrastructure materials and export of imports till the end of June.
According to Chairman Shahi, the project has faced problems from hardware materials and other sectors to complete the project work as the deadline is approaching.
With the closure of the Karnali corridor, the movement of people not only to Bajura to Humla but also to Mugu has been affected. The agitating side has urged the government, political parties, media and civil society to stand up for justice to the victims.
According to Bajura’s Assistant Chief District Officer Laxman Pudasaini, there was a dispute between the locals of Humla and Bajura over the establishment of a police post.
According to Pudasaini, Assistant Chief District Officer of Bajura, the process of reopening the Karnali Corridor has been initiated in view of the problems caused to the people due to the closure of the Karnali Corridor for an indefinite period.
