Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi has termed the border issue of Nepal as a very sensitive issue of national concern.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, he said that the border issue is not the issue of any single party or opposition but the common issue of the whole parliament and nation. He said that the parliament should have raised questions on time on the statement made by the incumbent Prime Minister of the country that Nepal has encroached on the territory of another country.
“The border issue is a very sensitive issue. I don’t think it’s just the opposition’s issue. It is a matter of sovereign parliament. It’s an issue for all parties. When the incumbent Prime Minister of the country said that we have encroached on the border of another country, we should have asked the question on the same day but we could not. ’
He said that the parliament should be serious about the border issue if any Prime Minister has to return the land said to be encroached upon by Nepal in the future. He was of the view that there should be a clear discussion on such issues of national importance as the parliament is the place to work.
He said, “Not only did the Prime Minister of the RSP speak like this today, but if the next Prime Minister comes tomorrow, then where will we encroach on the country’s borders, then where will we give land?”
Lawmaker Shahi said that nothing is greater than the nation and Nepal is the common basis to connect all Nepalis by being affiliated to different professions, classes and political ideologies.
Stating that Nepal’s history was not made from ordinary political activities, elections and speeches, he said all sides should be responsible for protecting the country’s sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity.
He said, “This is the place where the parliament works. There is nothing bigger than this country. What is bigger than the nation? Some may be businessmen, some are lawmakers, some are employees, some are students, but Nepal is the land that connects all of us. The history of this country is not a country made up of political speeches, like you holding elections, singing songs, or making political speeches. ’
