Kathmandu. An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck the Philippines on Monday morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 5:07 am Nepali time. There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake.
The epicentre of the quake was located at 5.635 degrees north latitude and 125.147 degrees east longitude, NCS said on X. The quake struck at a depth of 93 km.
Another 6.4-magnitude tremor was felt in the same region about 11 minutes after the first quake, the NCS said. The second quake struck at a depth of 79 km and was centered at 5.605 degrees north latitude and 125.408 degrees east longitude.
The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire region, which is prone to frequent seismic activity.
