Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has reiterated its clear stance on resolving the border disputes between Nepal and India through diplomatic channels and table talk.

Talking to media persons after the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Minister for Education and government Spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel said that various diplomatic mechanisms were already active between the two countries to resolve the border disputes.

According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made necessary briefing on the border issue and diplomatic notes are being exchanged between Nepal and India. “The mechanisms formed to resolve the border disputes are not new, they are being worked through the already established structures,”

he said.

Responding to the queries raised about the Prime Minister’s latest remarks on the border issue, the spokesperson said that the Prime Minister did not present any evidence but expressed surprise at the context that came up during the discussion on the border.

According to him, the government is of the view that some issues related to border disputes should be resolved through diplomatic dialogue as both countries have different claims regarding the territories being used by both countries.

“It is the policy of the government to resolve all border issues raised between the two countries through table talk,” he

said.

Responding to a query about the evidence of Nepal encroaching on India’s territory, he clarified that the Prime Minister had not made any such claim.

Responding to a query regarding the presence of the Prime Minister in the Parliament, he said that the Prime Minister was ready to answer the question if needed.

Responding to a query about the report submitted by the Human Rights Commission, he said necessary process would be initiated once the report is formally received by the government.

According to him, the government has adopted the policy of resolving the border issues through diplomatic channel rather than political channel and would give priority to dialogue to find a long-term solution.
