Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Food Hygiene, Nisha Mehta, has urged all to make a resolution to give up the use of tobacco products.
In a message on the occasion of ‘World Day Free of Tobacco Products today’, she urged the users to make a resolution from today itself to give up tobacco.
Mehta also urged the people not to use and tempt harmful substances like vapes and hookahs in the name of looking modern and different.
She added that the ministry would provide support and counseling to those who want to get rid of tobacco or vape addiction.
Minister Mehta also urged people not to be misled as e-cigarettes, vape hookahs contain harmful nicotine and toxic elements like traditional tobacco.
“Tobacco use is a serious public health challenge. As per the latest statistics, around 29 percent people in Nepal are using tobacco products. The statistics that more than one person die every year due to the use of tobacco products in the country is a matter of great concern and concern for all. Therefore, I urge you to quit your addiction. ’
Minister Mehta said that the new strategies adopted by the tobacco industry targeting teenagers are a challenge and urged the industry to be serious about human health.
On the occasion, Minister Mehta said that the government has given special emphasis on effective implementation of laws related to tobacco control and regulation to tackle the existing challenges of tobacco users.
