Indira Rana urges government not to scrap National Child Rights Council without alternative provision

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Indira Rana Magar has drawn the attention of the government to scrap the National Child Rights Council.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Magar said that it was publicly heard that the erstwhile government had decided to scrap the National Child Rights Council.

She urged the government not to implement the decision until a clear alternative structure and an effective arrangement were ensured keeping in mind the sensitive issues such as protection of child rights, child rights and institutional continuity.

“It has been publicly heard that the erstwhile government’s decision to dissolve the National Child Rights Council.

I would like to draw the serious attention of the Government of Nepal not to immediately implement this decision until a clear alternative structure and effective arrangement is ensured in view of the sensitive issues such as protection of child rights, rights and institutional continuity of children. I also urge the government to reconsider this issue after extensive consultations with the stakeholders. ’

Rana Magar urged the government to reconsider its decision after holding extensive consultations with stakeholders on the issue.

Describing children as the most vulnerable and voiceless section of society, she said the state should be sensitive towards their rights and protection.
