Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump will arrive in Beijing on Wednesday evening to discuss the war with Iran and other important issues. He is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said Trump’s visit will conclude on Friday with an opening ceremony and keynote meeting on Thursday morning. The US also plans to welcome Chinese leader Xi to the country later this year.

Kelly said this week’s trip has “enormous symbolic significance” and will focus on restoring balance of relations with China, prioritizing reciprocity and fairness, and restoring American economic freedom.

The trip, originally scheduled for earlier this year, was postponed in March due to the US-Israel war on Iran. At present, Trump is struggling to reduce the impact of this war at home and abroad.

A senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Sunday that Trump could pressure China on Iran’s oil sales and purchases of both military and civilian goods. Last week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told Fox News that China was providing financial support to Iran.

He claimed that Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorism and China is supporting it by buying 90 percent of its energy.

Iran has shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy transport, in response to US and Israeli attacks, which has affected the global economy. Asian countries, which depend on imports from the Middle East, have been particularly affected.

China has said it wants an end to the war and welcomed Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi last week. At the same time, Beijing refuses to recognize the unilateral sanctions imposed by Washington on Iran’s oil sector.

During the talks, Trump is also expected to raise China’s support for Russia, trade and rare earth resources. The US delegation will be accompanied by CEOs of Boeing and several agricultural companies.

On Taiwan, the US position will not change. Although China considers Taiwan its territory, the US has deep security and economic commitments there.
