Kathmandu. The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used for commercial purpose in India has been increased significantly due to the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to local media reports, the price of a cylinder has been increased by Rs 993 per cylinder effective from Friday.
With the latest price hike, the price of commercial cylinder has now reached Rs 3,071.50. With the increase in gas prices, the price of food items in hotels, restaurants and other business establishments is expected to increase. This is the third increase in commercial gas prices since tensions began in the Middle East. The price of a cylinder was hiked by Rs 144 per cylinder in March and Rs 200 per cylinder on April 1.
The Government of India has been claiming that the supply of LPG for both commercial and domestic purposes is easy. However, according to government data, India imports more than 60 percent of its total LP gas demand.
India imports gas mainly from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Due to the volatility seen in the international market, the price of gas had to be adjusted time and again.
