Kathmandu. Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has accused the incumbent government of belittling both the parliament and the citizens. Thapa made the remark at a cadres meet organized at Chandranigahapur of Rautahat district on his way to meet the voters of Sarlahi-4 for the first time after the election to the House of Representatives.
Thapa said the government does not have faith in the parliament which has a majority. “The government has no faith in the House that has a majority,” he said, adding, “The postponement of the parliament meeting without giving any further notice at a time when the date of the meeting has already been fixed shows the irresponsibility of the government.” ’
Referring to the government’s preparation to bring the ordinance by evading the parliament, he criticized the tendency of not informing the citizens. Stating that the meeting was postponed at the request of the lawmakers, Thapa termed it a “sheer lie and contempt”.
Discussing about the structure of the Constitutional Council, he said the activities to manipulate the Council in his favour were going on as was the case with the previous prime ministers. “We are in favour of reforms and were in favour of making sweeping changes in the appointment of constitutional bodies,” he said, adding, “But we are trying to move ahead unilaterally without holding any discussion with the opposition.” ’
He also warned that the NC would not remain silent against the tendency of harassing the parliament and other political parties although it was ready to support the government in the government reforms. Thapa is going to Sarlahi for the first time to thank the voters and take stock of the local situation after being defeated in the elections held in Sarlahi-4 last February. He is scheduled to visit different places of Sarlahi throughout the day and meet with the voters directly.
