Kathmandu. Lightning, a humanoid robot developed by China’s leading smart device manufacturer Honor, has won the title of the E-Town Humanoid Robot Half Marathon in Beijing.

Lightning won the gold medal with a best time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds. The 21.0975 km marathon kicked off at 7:30 am on Sunday in Yizhuang district (E-Town) of Beijing. The competition featured two categories: autonomous navigation and remote control. Although the robots in both disciplines competed on the same path, the results were calculated with a weighted coefficient of 1.0 for autonomous navigation and 1.2 for remote control.

In this competition, Honor Company’s robots dominated and managed to get the top three spots. Honor’s Chitian Daseng team came out first, followed by Liting Sandian team with a timing of 50 minutes and 56 seconds and Xinghuo Liaoyuan third with a timing of 53 minutes and 1 seconds. All three winners were from autonomous navigation categories.

On the other hand, in the remote control category, Honor’s Juying Leopard team’s robot crossed the distance in 48 minutes and 19 seconds. However, according to the weighted rules of the game, its net time was set at 57 minutes and it could not make it to the top three.

There has also been a significant increase in the number of teams participating in this year’s competition. Last year, 20 teams took part, while this year more than 100 teams participated. Last year’s winner, Tiangong Ultra Robot, completed the race in 2 hours and 40 minutes, reflecting a rapid development in robotic technology, balance, and algorithms.

The participating robots exhibited a more stable pace, longer endurance, and a more sophisticated running style. This breakthrough indicates that the use of humanoid robots in the future will be more effective in sports and other physical labor.
