Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s decision to dissolve trade unions as part of its 100-point governance reform agenda.

Expressing gratitude for the promptness shown by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security in implementing the labour standards, the Union drew serious attention to the decision of dissolving the trade unions under the 100-point governance reform agenda.

Stating that Article 34 of the Constitution and the Trade Union and Labour Act guarantee the right of workers to open trade unions and collective bargaining, the Nepal Trade Union Congress has warned that such scrapping would violate the fundamental rights.

It also reminded that Nepal has the obligation to respect ILO conventions 87 and 98.

The federation is committed to increasing productivity, ensuring quality products and services through social dialogue and collective bargaining by correcting the shortcomings seen in the labour movement.

Therefore, they have strongly demanded the immediate withdrawal of the decision to curtail the freedom of the organization, scrap the Minimum Wages Board and publish only the government’s advertisement and media medium.
