Kathmandu. Due to austerity and maximum utilization of local resources, the Election Commission has been able to save billions of rupees by spending only half of the demanded budget.
The Election Commission has presented an excellent example of fiscal discipline in election management this time.
At a press conference organized on Thursday, NHRC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that the Commission has demanded a total of Rs 7.81 billion from the government. According to him, the Ministry of Finance has agreed to source Rs 6.76 billion.
However, according to the final expenditure details, only Rs 3.54 billion has been spent. This has saved more than Rs 3.32 billion from the state exchequer. Out of 50 types of election materials, 37 types of election materials would be purchased from the provincial and district election offices.
“This has reduced the transportation cost and unnecessary procurement process at the centre,” he said.
The commission had obtained special concessions in the purchase and transportation of materials in coordination with the government-owned organizations. He said that only 13 types of complex materials were purchased from the center.
