Kathmandu. Actor Rajesh Hamal’s name has been misused. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a corruption case at the Special Court on the charge of embezzling Rs 12,77,250 in the name of a documentary made using his photograph.
The anti-graft body has filed a corruption case against Dhakari Rural Municipality Chair Prakash Bahadur Saud, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Laxman Sah and accountant Bimal Saud on the charge of misappropriating public property. In the same case, R. J. Ramji Lamsal, also known as Ram Bahadur Lamsal, chairman of Twenty Four News and New Indreni Foundation, has also been named as a defendant in the case.
According to the commission, a budget of Rs 1.5 million was allocated for the production of the film by adding the name of Rajesh Hamal, out of which Rs 12,77,250 was paid. However, the CIAA concluded that serious violation of Public Procurement Act and Regulations was found in the act.
Issuing a press release today, CIAA Spokesperson Suresh Neupane said the investigation has revealed that the purchase agreement was made without any competition and due process, payment up to 35 per cent was made above the legal limit and the payment was made without bank guarantee.
According to the CIAA, the bills submitted for the production of films were suspicious and fake and corruption was found to have been carried out in a planned manner to embezzle government money without carrying out any work.
Rural municipality chairperson Prakash Bahadur Saud has been accused of abusing his position to benefit himself and other defendants.
Likewise, the CIAA has filed a charge sheet at the Special Court demanding maximum punishment for other defendants as per Sections 17 and 22 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
