Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has demanded that the government immediately adjust the fare in public transport in protest of the steep hike of petroleum products.

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of diesel by Rs 10 per litre and petrol by Rs 15 per litre to be effective from May 15. The Federation has said that such a huge price hike has directly affected the transport entrepreneurs and general consumers.

Issuing a press release today, FNCCI general secretary Daknath Gautam said that the fluctuation in the price of public transport will have a direct impact on business as the public transport is completely dependent on fuel.

Although the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has been adjusting the fare through the automatic system, it has not been adjusted the fare since March 5, 2021.

The federation has demanded immediate fare adjustment as per the scientific method determined in 2065 BS on the basis of 13 indicators related to vehicles. The Department of Transport Management has drawn the attention of the government to adjust the transport fare at the earliest in the case of federal routes and from the concerned ministries of all seven provinces in the case of the routes under the provinces at the earliest.

Transport entrepreneurs have said that the problem will not be solved only by increasing the price of electricity to the Nepal Oil Corporation. They have also demanded the government to control internal leakage and consumption of petroleum products and make smooth supply system by adopting scientific method.
