Kathmandu. Around 3.19 metric tonnes of dry waste from 10 wards of Ward No. 7 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is being transported to the landfill site on a daily basis through the Dry Waste Material Recovery Facility operated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
The meeting presided over by Chairperson of Garbage Collection and Transport Steering Committee and Acting Mayor of KMC Sunita Dangol discussed on the issues of waste segregation, transportation, final management and reduction in the amount of garbage. During this time, information was given about the practice of the Material Recovery Facility.
The waste collected through this facility will be segregated and the reusable dry waste will be sold through income contract. The meeting included wards 12, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 27 under constituency no. 7.
The metropolis has divided its geographical area into seven parts for the management of dry waste produced along with domestic waste and has allocated an annual income of Rs 60.8 million 72 thousand 371 annually. Glorious Multipurpose and Supplies Company has been selected for Region No. 7. The Material Recovery Facility was brought into operation by signing an agreement with the company on March 9, 2081.
The metropolis is expected to generate around Rs 70 lakh annually from this area. The meeting has also recommended extending the deadline for bidding for service providers by one more year. Plans for other sectors are in the implementation phase.
In the meeting, acting chief Dangol stressed the need of effective implementation of waste segregation programme for sustainable management.
On the occasion, Chief of Environment Management Department Sarita Rai briefed about the practice of River Key Facility and engineer Ram Prasad Nepal about the performance satisfaction report of the service providers.
The 32 wards have been divided into seven zones for the systematic disposal of household waste.
Practical Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in Area No. 2. Lee. The company has accepted the contract for Rs 51,59,043 lakh annually. These include wards 1, 11, 28, 29 and 30. It is estimated that around 36.5 metric tonnes of dry waste would be collected from this area on a daily basis.
Creative Sanitation Pvt. Ltd. in Area No. 3. Lee. The company has bid an annual income of Rs 55,35,891. The constituency comprises wards 6, 8 and 9. It is estimated that around 38 metric tonnes of garbage is collected from the waste site every day.
Mechi Poly Industries has bid Rs 1,15,04,404 in constituency no. 4. These include wards 16, 17 and 26.
Ward no 13, 14 and 15 have been included in the constituency number 5. Around 49 metric tons of dry waste is estimated to be collected annually for the sector.
The constituency number 6 consists of wards 10, 31 and 32. Around 54 metric tons of dry waste is estimated to be collected from the area, and the Poly Waste Management has submitted the contract for Rs 9.181 million. The amount so agreed upon is non-taxable.
