Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — Thousands of candidates who had competed in the first-past-the-post (first-past-the-post system) elections to the House of Representatives held on March 4 have been forfeited. According to the Election Commission, 2,890 candidates could not save their deposits in this election. Information Officer at the Election Commission, Suman Ghimire, said that the candidates who want to participate in the election are required to deposit certain deposit amount as per the law.
He said, “The deposits of the candidates who get more than 10 percent of the valid votes will be revoked later.” However, the deposit of the candidates who get less than 10 percent of the 10 percent of the valid votes is forfeited. That bail does not have to be returned, it will not be returned. In this way, as per the provision of this law, the deposits of some candidates have also been forfeited in the first-past-the-post election system in the election to the House of Representatives held on March 4.
Of these, the deposits of 2,890 candidates have been forfeited. Of them, 350 candidates did not get votes. Their vote counting seems to be zero. And 516 candidates have not forfeited their deposits. They will return it later. There is also a process for returning. Candidates will have to apply for refund of their deposits within 90 days of the declaration of the final results of the election and they will get the money back. ’

According to the election law, a candidate can get his or her guarantee back only if he or she secures more than 10 per cent of the total valid votes cast in his or her constituency. As per the law, the deposit amount will be forfeited to the state treasury if the voter receives less than 10 per cent of the valid votes.
350 candidates vote zero
According to Information Officer Ghimire, out of 2,890 candidates who forfeited their deposits, 350 candidates could not get a single vote. Their results were zero. This proves that some candidates have not been able to cast their votes or even those of their families. Only 516 candidates have been able to save their deposits by deducting 10 percent of the total valid votes.
How to get the amount back Rs
As many as 516 candidates who secure more than 910 per cent of the votes will have to apply to the Election Commission (EC) within 90 days of the announcement of the final election results. According to the Commission, they will get their money back as per the law after submitting the application.
