Kathmandu. The election police deployed for the security of the House of Representatives members have completed their tenure. The Nepal Police had deployed 133,980 election personnel while the Armed Police Force (APF) had deployed 15,110 election personnel for 40 days.
The election to the House of Representatives was held peacefully on March 4. Preparations are being made to bid farewell to the election police as the counting of votes has already been declared. Nepal Police Spokesperson (DIG) Abi Narayan Kafle told Ratopati that they would be given a farewell letter of thanks. The police are bidding farewell to the election police across the country on March 28. Kafle said, “They are being bid farewell across the country on Thursday, March 28. ’
The Armed Police Force (APF) is also scheduled to bid farewell to the election police on March 28. The APF had mobilized 15,110 election police personnel for election security. Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force (APF) Bishnu Prasad Bhatta said that the election police deployed for election security will be bid farewell on Thursday.
The government has provided a salary of Rs 34,776 to the election police for 40 days. Apart from this, they have received an additional Rs 846 for ration and transportation. The election police will get lunch allowance of Rs 300 per day for four days. Police spokesperson (DIG) Kafle said that separate amount has been provided for the uniforms. He said, “The election police have been given money in installments. Many of them have already received services and some are in the process of availing them.
A total of 149,090 election police personnel have been mobilized by the two organizations. According to security officials, around Rs 7.83 billion has been spent on services and facilities for them. Nepal Police alone has spent Rs 7.13 billion for the election police. The APF has spent around Rs 70 crore.
A total of 11 election police personnel and an assistant sub-inspector of Nepal Police lost their lives in an accident while on election duty. The government will provide Rs 20 lakh to the families of those killed in the line of duty. DIG Kafle said, “The family members of the deceased will get the insurance amount if they die while on duty. ’
