. The election to the House of Representatives has just concluded and the results of the election have also been made public from the country, when the voters are about to enter the parliament building, the voters have also entered the fields to plant chaitya paddy, hoping for fertilizer, irrigation and electricity for the farmers in time.

TAG_OPEN_div_30 At this time, the farmers of Saptari have started returning to their fields for the planting of Chaite paddy. Chaitya paddy is sown in the month of Falgun, planted in the beginning of March and brought from the 15th of Jeth. According to farmers of Saptari, the production of paddy in a short span of 80 to 90 days is double that of the paddy produced in November.

Local farmers said that the production of Chaitya paddy has doubled in a short span of time, but it is expensive.TAG_OPEN_div_28 They said that irrigation is more expensive than uprooting seeds, ploughing fields, planting and uprooting grass. They said that if irrigation is done through boring, it will cost two hundred katthas and three hundred rupees if irrigation is done through diesel medium.

Since it is a dry period, irrigation has to be done at an interval of 4 days. Due to which the cost is high. They have demanded that the irrigation system should be good for the farmers and arrangements should be made free of cost.

According to Agriculture Knowledge Center, Saptari, Chaite paddy has been cultivated in 2,500 hectares of land in Bishnupur Rural Municipality, Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, Rajgadh Rural Municipality, Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality, Mahadeva Rural Municipality, Rupani Rural Municipality, Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality, Bodebarsain Municipality, Khadak Municipality and Shambhunath Municipality.TAG_OPEN_div_25 g.

According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, the production capacity of Chaite rice in Nepal is more than that of ‘Asare paddy’.TAG_OPEN_div_23 Rice is a photogenic crop. When the sun shines, the yield of rice increases. This is also the main reason why Chaite paddy is produced more in winter than in the rainy season. If Chaite rice farming is expanded in Nepal, the production of rice will also increase. But there is a lack of irrigation in many areas where paddy is grown. In Nepal, 540,331 tonnes of paddy has been produced in 108,607 hectares of land. Which is 4.98 tons per hectare. However, Asare paddy is cultivated in 13,39,182 hectares and the yield is only 4,946,141 tonnes or 3.74 tonnes per hectare.
