Asian Highway Construction Gaining Momentum (Seven Photos)

Kathmandu. The construction of the ‘Asian Highway’, which aims to connect Asian countries with road networks, has gained momentum.

More than 35 per cent of the construction of the Kakarbhitta-Laukahi road section has been completed in two years.

The work is being carried out by dividing the eastern section and the western section into two parts. The office based in Damak will look after the 45-km road from Kakarbhitta to Sitapur while the Itahari office will look after the road from Sitapur to Pachrukhi in the west of Itahari.

The highway starts from Bangkok of Thailand, passes through Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Kakarvitta of Nepal, passes through Delhi, Karachi of Pakistan. With the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank, the construction of the road began on February 19, 2080 with a plan to complete the project in three years. The estimated cost of the project is $300 million.

A total of 48 bridges and 10 overpasses will be constructed in the road area. A total of 21 bridges are under construction in the eastern section while 92 out of 140 box culverts are under construction.
