Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sushila Karki had a telephone conversation with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani today.
Prime Minister Karki telephoned his Qatari counterpart Al-Thani on Thursday afternoon and expressed concern over the recent developments in the West Asia region.
On behalf of the government and people of Nepal, Karki expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Qatar for providing security and protection to the 360,000 Nepali citizens in Qatar.
“Currently, around 360,000 Nepali nationals are living and working in the State of Qatar. I am very happy to hear that they are safe and well cared for. We express our sincere gratitude to you and your government for taking care of our people,” she said.
Prime Minister Karki said Nepal was closely observing the developments in the West Asia region and stressed on the need for all sides concerned to exercise patience, not to escalate the conflict and ensure security of its citizens.
Stressing that all countries should respect and abide by the UN Charter, international law, Geneva Conventions and humanitarian law, she said war under any pretext could not be an alternative to peace. Prime Minister Karki said that lasting peace would be ensured only through talks and diplomacy.
Karki expressed solidarity with the situation in Qatar and expressed deep concern over the attacks on Qatar’s sovereign territory, especially against civilian areas. She expressed confidence that Qatar would be able to cope with the current situation with a constructive role.
