Kathmandu. On the fifth day of a joint U.S.-Israel offensive, Israel launched a massive airstrike targeting security forces across Iran. The death toll in the attack has risen to 1,045. In response, Iran has launched a retaliatory attack and threatened to destroy the military and economic infrastructure of the Middle East.

According to the Iranian news agency Tasnimu, Israel bombed the capital Tehran, the holy city of Qom, western Iran and Isfahan province on Wednesday. Residential buildings were also said to have been damaged in the attacks. Israel has specifically targeted buildings belonging to the Basij, a volunteer force under Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, and the Internal Security Command.

Iranian civilians have been the hardest hit of this war. More than 6,000 people have been injured and more than 300 children and adolescents have been hospitalized. According to the United Nations, about 100,000 people have left Tehran between February 28 and March 1 due to the war.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that two buildings near the Isfahan nuclear power plant were safe and there was no risk of a radioactive leak.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh were killed in Saturday’s first round of attacks. Their funeral is expected to be attended by millions, adding to the security challenges.
