5 including JSP candidate Yadav released from Siraha

Kathmandu. Police have directed five persons including Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP) candidate from Siraha-3, Asheshwor Yadav, who were arrested with money during the silence period of the House of Representatives election, to furlough clarification within three days.

The Election Officer’s Office, Siraha, has directed Yadav to furnish clarification within 3 days for his arrest. Chief Election Officer of Siraha, Shree Prakash Upreti, said that after studying all the documents, the deadline for submitting the clarification has been given within 3 days.

He said, “We have studied all the documents and have given an opportunity to submit the clarification within 3 days.” Based on the explanations and evidence submitted by them, further proceedings will proceed. ’

He informed that the 5 arrested were released immediately. The seized cash and vehicles were immediately seized, Upreti said. He said that the investigation is underway and action will be taken as per the election law.

Police had arrested Yadav with Rs 4.87 lakh from Mader along the Nepal-India border during the silence period last night. A group led by Yadav was arrested with the money during a joint check of a Scorpio vehicle (Pra 2-02-001 Cha 087) en route to Siraha district headquarters from Madar.

The arrestees have been identified as Shyam Kumar Yadav, 32, Ram Pravesh Yadav, 35, and Bapendra Kumar Yadav, 40, of Bishnupur-5 and jeep driver Jitendra Kumar Mahato, 28, of Naraha-3.

The EC can impose fine as per clause (1) and (2) of Clause 30 of the Election (Offence and Punishment) Act, 2073 BS.

As per the code of conduct, a candidate failing to pay the fine for six months can be disqualified from contesting in any election for a maximum of 6 years.
