Kathmandu. Iran has fired a missile at the US military base Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Qatar’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed this.

Al-Udeid Air Base, located southwest of Qatar’s capital Doha, is the largest US military base in the Middle East.

Qatar’s defence ministry said in a statement that two ballistic missiles fired from Iran on Tuesday night targeted Qatar. One of the missiles was intercepted by air defence systems and the other landed at the Al-Udeid military base southwest of the capital Doha.

No human casualties have been reported in the incident, the ministry said. However, the statement did not say whether there was any physical damage.

“The Qatari armed forces have the full capability to ensure the sovereignty and territorial security of the country, and are ready to respond strongly to any external threat,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the ministry has urged citizens, resident foreigners and visitors to remain calm, follow the official directives and rely on verified information instead of rumour.

Earlier on Tuesday, the ministry said it had detected three cruise missiles, 101 ballistic missiles and 39 suicide drones in Qatari airspace since the start of the invasion. All missiles and 24 drones were intercepted, the ministry said.

Tensions escalated on Saturday after the United States and Israel launched a massive attack on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and continued its attacks on US military bases in the Middle East. More than 800 people were killed in the attack.

In retaliation, Iran has launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and the Gulf countries that have US military assets.
