Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has drawn the attention of the Election Commission (EC) over the increasing incidents of violation of the election code of conduct.
The NC has submitted a memorandum to the EC on Sunday regarding the violation of the election code of conduct at various places.
A team led by NC Spokesperson and central member Devraj Chalise submitted the four-point memorandum to the government.
The letter states that the political parties have misused physical symbols, used children in their election campaigning, violated directives regarding the use of the national flag and tried to influence public opinion by disseminating fake information through social sites.
Receiving the memorandum, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that more than 1100 complaints have been filed against the violation of the election code of conduct so far and the EC has been collecting evidences. He added that action would be taken after studying the amount as it was found that the amount was also distributed in different places.
Bhandari said the Commission was sensitive towards the incidents of violation of the election code of conduct and thanked the NC for drawing its attention. He also made it clear that the Election Commission was committed to ensuring fair and fair election.
The NC has demanded enforcement of election code of conduct to maintain freedom, fairness, transparency, frugality and fear-free environment.
Spokesperson Chalise was accompanied by central member and senior advocate Prem Bahadur Khadka, president of Democratic Lawyers Association senior advocate Sitaram KC, NC youth leader Manoj Mani Acharya, acting chief secretary of the central office Krishna Prasad Dulal and media center coordinator Jeevan Bhandari, among others.
