Kathmandu. Coordinator of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has claimed that he would win 60 seats in the first-past-the-post (FPTP) elections. Prachanda made the claim during a meeting of leftist intellectuals at the party’s central office in Parisdanda on Wednesday.

“Our political line has been cleared. We have not put any ‘if’, ‘butt’. “We have gained confidence as we are directly in favour of the nation, democracy and the constitution,” he said, adding, “If the election is held in a fair way, good results will come out in our favour.” Even our staunchest opponents have started saying that it will be better than before. Some have said that the report will come out unexpectedly. However, the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) is expected to win 60 plus. ’

Leader Pramesh Hamal, who was also present in the meeting, said that the NCP has been briefed on the possibility of winning 60 seats in the first-past-the-post elections to be held on March 4. He claimed that he would get at least 20 to 25 lakh votes under the proportional representation category.

“We are based on the report of the local committee. Leftist intellectuals have also said that our party has done well this time. The coordinator also announced that he would win 60 seats in the FPTP category. A secretariat meeting has been called tomorrow to take stock of whether there is such a real ground or not,” he said. The NCP, which is contesting the elections alone after 12 years, has filed its candidacy in 164 constituencies. The NCP has placed Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim in the constituencies where it is likely to win.
