Kathmandu. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) has claimed to win at least 19 out of 28 House of Representatives constituencies in Koshi Province. The party leadership has become more confident after a significant public participation in the province-level ‘Change Declaration Assembly’ held in Itahari on Tuesday.
Party President Rabi Lamichhane, senior leader Balendra Shah and representatives and candidates from different regions of Koshi Province addressed the mass meeting. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to establish a “new political culture” by curbing corruption, good governance and ending old political practices.
President Lamichhane pledged to investigate into all the major scandals that took place after 2046 BS and said that the issue of returning the savings of the cooperative victims would be given priority. “The country cannot move forward without maintaining accountability and transparency in politics,” he said, seeking people’s support in the agenda of change.
Claiming that the RSP was the force capable of transforming the country, Shah said people’s disenchantment towards traditional political parties was increasing. He was of the view that a political force was necessary to address the hopes and expectations of youths.
The party rank and file were excited by the significant attendance of the participants. A woman who was present at the meeting site said, “The bell has rung all over the Koshi province, now the time has come for change.” Referring to the RSP’s election symbol ‘Bell’, she claimed that a wave of change has been seen in the state.
In a brief conversation with Nepal News Bank after the conclusion of the program, Rastriya Samajwadi Party Koshi Province General Secretary and candidate for Sunsari-2 Lal Bikram Thapa said that the number of people participated in the election compared to the expectation.
“People’s enthusiasm has made us more responsible,” he said, adding, “We have an internal assessment that we are in a position to win at least 19 out of 28 constituencies in Koshi.” ’
In the 2079 BS parliamentary elections, the RSP could not win in any constituency in Koshi Province. However, the party had fielded competitive votes in some constituencies of Sunsari and Morang. Since then, the party leaders claim that the expansion of the organization, public relations campaign and active presence on local issues have expanded their base.
