Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has established a high-tech Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics cell at its head office in Naxal with an objective of making crime investigation and peace and security technology-friendly. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal inaugurated the cell amidst a special program on Monday.

After the inauguration, Home Minister Aryal had taken detailed information about SAIL’s working methodology, its functions and its utility in security management. Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and Inspector General of Armed Police Force, Raju Aryal, among other high-ranking officials of security bodies were present on the occasion.

At present, increasing cybercrime, organized criminal networks, financial frauds and digital campaigns spreading social instability are becoming a major challenge for the security agencies. In such a situation, the police have set up this cell to use cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI, machine learning and automation.

It aims not only to analyse information but also to develop a system to alert before a crime is committed. Its main objective is to further strengthen the collection of digital evidence through the institutional use of artificial intelligence.

Nepal Police has achieved significant success with the use of this cell before it has come into full operation. Police have arrested five people involved in spreading false and false information through social media from Banke, Kanchanpur, Sunsari, Salyan and Dang. This has confirmed that criminals can be identified quickly and effectively through the use of technology.

Central Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Abi Narayan Kafle has urged the citizens to be cautious while using social media. He warned that the police would bring to book anyone spreading confusion in the society by misusing the technology.
