Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has assigned a hearing on the corruption case against former Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal in connection with the Patanjali Yogpeeth and Ayurved Company Nepal land grabbing case. A three-member bench of Special Court Chairman Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Justices Hemanta Rawal and Dilli Ratna Shrestha has been conducting the hearing.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on June 5 had filed a case at the Special Court naming 93 persons including Nepal as defendants in the Patanjali land scam. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has slapped a fine of Rs 185.85 million against Nepal.
The anti-graft body has accused Nepal of misusing his position as the then Prime Minister to transfer public property for personal and institutional interests and indulging in corruption. The then Council of Ministers under the leadership of Nepal had approved the land transaction to Patanjali in excess of the ceiling in its meeting on February 6, 2066. The charge sheet claims that Nepal had allowed Patanjali to sell and exchange land beyond the limit on February 1, 2006.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against 93 people on the charge of illegally selling 314 ropanis of land and embezzling 1 daam of land.
