Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The District Administration Office Kathmandu has imposed a lockdown in the premises of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The administration has taken this step after the statements of some groups and political parties preparing to protest at the airport on February 1.

The local administration has imposed a prohibitory order for a month effective from Thursday. No more than five people will be allowed to organize hunger strike, sit-in, gherao procession, demonstration or assembly in the airport premises.

According to the order of Chief District Officer Ishwor Raj Poudel, the ban will be enforced in all roads from Golden Gate to the airport premises, domestic and international terminal area, parking area and all areas within the airport premises. The administration has said that gathering in sensitive areas such as airports can lead to vandalism, arson and unruly activities by mobs.

However, in other places where prohibitory orders have not been issued, the administration has made it clear that in accordance with the constitution, every citizen will have the freedom to peacefully express and assemble.

The organizers should pay compensation if the government, public or private property is damaged due to the protest program.
