17th National Children’s Drama Festival inaugurated

Kathmandu. The 17th National Children’s Drama Festival has been inaugurated on Friday. The week-long festival was inaugurated today by Shelly Theatre, Russian Sadan Kathmandu and Ojas Theatre.

The chief guest of the program, poet and playwright LB Chhetri said that it is necessary to take drama genre seriously. He said, “The history of drama is historical and all sides should always be included to make it realistic.”

He said that the genre of drama is such that it always gives liveliness and has been playing a strong and exemplary role. Stating that children’s drama should be presented as a powerful medium of education as the characters of drama are always alive, he said that children should aim to present their dreams on stage.

Coordinator of the Children’s Drama Festival, Mahesh Poudel, said that the development of the drama genre would not be possible until the government bodies gave importance to the drama genre. He said that unless the living content is objectively observed, it is doubtful that its growth will develop.

Similarly, Director of the Russian House Kathmandu, Anastasia Khokolova said that this year’s drama festival is very meaningful and it is even more important in the context of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia.

He said that such programs will continue in the coming years as well. She said that the drama festival has been giving life to this project for many years.

Similarly, in the inaugural session, two plays ‘We Are the One’ and ‘Parvati’ were presented. In which ‘We Are One’ is a competitive drama, while ‘Parvati’ is a non-competitive play. On the occasion, Ram Babu Subedi was honoured with the Shanta Das Manandhar Award.

There will be 18 plays. There will be a cash prize along with trophies and prizes. The festival will run till February 14.
