Kathmandu. A delegation from Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) arrived in Kathmandu to discuss the joint business council (JBC) formed between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).
An agreement on establishment of the Joint Business Council was signed during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar to Nepal in April 2024. The agreement further strengthens economic cooperation between Nepal and Qatar.
At the invitation of FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the Qatari delegation was led by Mohamed Ahmed M. Shrestha, Board Member of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Dr. A. Alobaidli.
The Council will meet in Kathmandu on February 9 and 10. The joint business council has been established as a structured forum to promote dialogue, business collaboration and direct engagement between the private sector of Nepal and Qatar.
The delegation will hold high-level meetings during their stay in Kathmandu. The delegation included Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha. He is also scheduled to meet Dr. Biswanath Poudel.
Chairman of FNCCI Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the finalization of the joint business council would be important to expand bilateral trade, promote investment flow and strengthen the partnership between the business people of both the countries. According to Dhakal, the discussions will be focused on making the Council practical and result-oriented and identifying concrete areas of cooperation.
Nepal and Qatar have long enjoyed cordial relations and strong people-to-people contacts, which are now moving towards deeper economic cooperation. Recent high-level bilateral meetings have created a positive environment to increase the participation of the private sector, and the FNCCI considers this visit as a timely step in that direction.
Nepal has attractive investment opportunities in hydropower and renewable energy, tourism, agro-processing, information technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, health and education, among others.
As the largest umbrella organization of the private sector in Nepal, FNCCI is committed to facilitating foreign investment, strengthening institutional collaboration and promoting business-to-business contacts. The FNCCI hopes that the achievements of the meeting will contribute to further strengthening Nepal-Qatar economic relations and increase trade and investment in the coming days.
