Kathmandu. The natural scenery seen in the Narayani River area during the winter season is very enchanting. On a chilly morning, the mist-shrouded river, banks, and surrounding grasslands come alive with the activity of winter migratory birds and local wildlife. The Narayani River is an important habitat for migratory birds that come to Nepal every year, travelling thousands of kilometers from North Asia, Siberia, Central Asia and the Tibetan highlands.

Major migratory birds like Ruddy Shelduck, Lost Goose, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Little Ringed Plover, etc. can be seen in this area. Also, the presence of aquatic animals like the Manitundak goose and the peacock in the surrounding forest area has also enriched the biodiversity here. These birds migrate to Nepal in search of warm weather, safe habitat, and plenty of food after extreme cold, snow and lack of food in the northern regions. Rivers, wetlands, and meadows like the Narayani are ideal places for them to spend winters.

All these species are playing an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region. Winter migratory birds are an important indicator of the health status and environmental balance of Nepal’s wetlands. But shrinking wetlands, river pollution, poaching and increasing human pressure have endangered the habitat of these birds. Therefore, it is very important to conserve the Narayani River and the wetlands adjacent to it.

Conserving these beautiful birds and wildlife is not only about protecting biodiversity, but also about ensuring a secure future for natural resources, tourism, and future generations. These scenes seen on the winter morning on the Narayani River carry a deep message of conservation along with the beauty of nature. See the rest of the image:
