Kathmandu. Expressing sorrow over the death of Ganesh Nepali in an attempt to self-immolate, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang drew the attention of the government to address the problems of youths involved in ride-sharing service.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, lawmaker Tamang said that Ganesh Nepali, who was associated with ride-sharing service, parked his motorbike at Tripureshwor and tried to self-immolate due to mental stress while going for passport work.
“Ganesh Nepali Bhai of Mugu, who is associated with ride-sharing service, parked his motorbike for his passport after dropping passengers to Tripureshwor and was wheel-locked by the metropolis on his vehicle,” she said, adding, “We are very saddened today by knowing that he attempted suicide by pouring petrol on his body due to mental stress.” ’
She said the incident was not only a tragic end for one person but also a signal to draw the state’s attention to the practical problems faced by thousands of young people working in the ride-sharing sector.
“It is the responsibility of the state not to unnecessarily harass such youths, but to make their working environment safe and comfortable,” Tamang said.
She also urged the government to provide separate identification sticker or official mark to the vehicles engaged in the ride-sharing service.
“I strongly urge the government to provide separate identification stickers or other official mark to the vehicles engaged in ride-sharing service so that the traffic police and local bodies can identify them from a distance,” she said. ’
