Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Eshuda Kumari Baral has said that the parliamentary regulations should be equally applicable to both the ruling and opposition parties.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, she said it was unfortunate that the Speaker had to repeatedly urge her to focus on the issues while speaking in the parliament.

She said that even while protesting, expressing one’s views on certain issues would justify it. After a member from the opposition benches had spoken, she asked all the MPs to cooperate in entering the day-to-day agenda.

Raising the issue of the statement made by the Prime Minister, Baral questioned why the ruling was not done or removed from the record of the parliament. She demanded through the Speaker to clarify whether the regulation is applicable only for the opposition or the ruling party as well.

“If this regulation is only for the opposition, then write it in the document, not for the ruling party and if not, then let the honorable Speaker rule on this issue,” she said. ’

Lawmaker Baral also drew the government’s attention towards the plight of landless squatters. According to him, displacing the poor people or pushing them on the streets with meagre money is a matter of human rights.

She questioned whether some of the government’s decisions were aimed at gaining popularity or for long-term development.

Referring to the decision to change the colour of public transport, she questioned whether such programmes would be implemented effectively across the country or were done only for publicity.

Baral said that the government should be serious about the exploitation, suppression and interference against the people. She was of the view that both the ruling party and the opposition should be treated equally in the parliament.
