Massive anti-government protests at Iran’s universities

Kathmandu. Students of several universities in Iran have taken to the streets to protest against the government. It was the first major protest since last month’s crackdown. Hundreds of students marched at Tehran’s Harif University of Technology and held a peaceful sit-in at Shahid Beheshti University.

TAG_OPEN_p_5Demonstrators chanted “Death to the dictator” and took to the streets carrying Iranian flags. The students protested in memory of the thousands of people killed in January.

At the same time, US-TAG_OPEN_p_4 Iran tensions are rising. US President Donald Trump has said that he is considering the possibility of limited military action against Iran. European countries are also expressing concern about Iran’s nuclear program.

Analysts have interpreted the wave of protests at the university as an important sign of the political situation in Iran.
