KATHMANDU — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the growing arrogance, opportunistic character and internal jealousy in the party and directed the leaders and cadres to immediately correct it.

Addressing the party’s internal training programme in Chitwan on Friday, he warned that the people’s vote should not be turned into arrogance.

Stating that some leaders and cadres have arrogance after the party’s success, Lamichhane said, “The people voted for us, we are drunk and silent so that we cannot stand on the ground. From top to bottom, we have climbed so much that we have stopped counting people as people.” ’

Stating that it is not the politics of the RSP to put pressure on the administration or the police in the name of power, he urged the leaders to always stand on the ground and be servants of the people. Taking a dig at the tendency of no one to contest elections at the lower level (ward level) within the party but only to look at the higher posts, Lamichhane said, “Our friends do not want to be ward chairpersons, they want to become mayor and MP at the same time. This clearly shows that we are going for the politics of opportunity.” ’

He urged the organization to strengthen the foundation by abandoning such opportunistic thinking. Speaking about the upcoming local level by-elections and other elections, President Lamichhane made it clear that ticket distribution in the party would not be based on the proximity of any leader, the news or the hotel. He said that the candidates would be selected through the process and primary (internal) election system decided by the party.

“When there are 20 aspirants for the same post, only one person gets it. No one has the right to betray the party or collude with the opposition just because he did not get the ticket,” he said, “If you do not get a ticket, you can be satisfied by crying for a day or two, but from the third day, you have to go out to ask for votes to make your friend win. This is political loyalty.” ’

Recalling that the people had great faith in taking this political revolution that started from Chitwan to this point, he urged all not to insult that mandate. Stating that unity, discipline and transparency were the main strengths of the RSP, he directed all to move ahead with responsibility and discipline.
