6 lakh youths going abroad for employment in 6 months

Kathmandu. Youths are migrating abroad in search of employment as the excitement of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives is increasing. While the leaders are going from village to village asking for votes, a large number of voters are leaving the country for foreign employment.

In the first six months of the current fiscal year 2080/81, around 600,TAG_OPEN_p_9 000 Nepalis have taken work permit for foreign employment. According to the Department of Foreign Employment, a total of 590,718 people have taken work permit from mid-July to mid-January.

During this period, 514,350 men and 76,368 women went for foreign employment.TAG_OPEN_p_8 Of them, 1 lakh 96 thousand 42 have taken work permit again. On an average, around 98,000 Nepalis go abroad every month for employment.

The crowd of youths going abroad at the departure hall of Tribhuvan International Airport has not diminished even as the election atmosphere is intensifying.TAG_OPEN_p_7 Many youths said that they were compelled to go abroad for lack of employment and opportunities.

Youths have complained that they have to leave the country due to compulsion to live despite wanting to vote. Although the political parties and leaders have raised youth-friendly slogans in the election, the exodus of youths has not stopped due to lack of employment opportunities in practice.

} Experts have said that the government to be formed after the upcoming elections should focus on concrete policies and implementation to create employment in the country.
