First National Conference on Crop Breeding, Genetics and Seed Science

. The first National Conference on Crop Breeding, Genetics and Seed Science was held at Khumaltar of Lalitpur on Friday. Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Madan Prasad Pariyar on January 19 and presented 32 working papers and 36 posters. The conference was jointly organized by the National Agricultural Research Institute under the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) and Crop Breeding and Genetics Society Nepal (PBAGSAN) with the support of gene banks, Libird, Oxfam and other organizations.

The conference reviewed the progress made so far in the field of crop breeding, genetics and seeds and gave necessary guidelines for the policies to be adopted in this field. The conference also elected a new executive committee of PBAGSHAN. The new executive committee chairman has been appointed as the chairperson. Resham Babu Amgai, Sushil Raj Subedi as Vice-President, Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Singh Kushwaha as Secretary, Dr. Madhav Kumar Shrestha as Treasurer. Pallavi Kumari Singh, Dr. Dr. Shanta Karki, MD Nabin Bhusal, Dr. Bal Kumari Oliya, Bishnu Prasad Kandel and Krishna Dhakal have been selected.

The ‘TAG_OPEN_div_35 Emerging Talent Award’ was presented to Prasansha Pandey, a student of Agriculture and Forestry University. Similarly, Ujjwal Kumar Singh Kushwaha and Krishna Dhakal received the Best Service Recognition Award, Prajita Devkota received the Best Student Oral Presentation Award and Astha Dhakal received the Best Student Poster Presentation Award.

During the three-day conference, Bharat Adhikari, a pioneer in the field of crop breeding, and Dr. Pramod Kumar Shrestha, chief of the National Agricultural Technology Information Center and senior scientist for their research on ‘Reflection of Agro-Biodiversity in Nepali Folklore’.TAG_OPEN_div_33 On the occasion, Kalika Prasad Upadhyaya was felicitated. On the occasion, PBAGSAN immediate past president Dr Bal Krishna Joshi thanked all those who helped make the conference a success and extended best wishes to the new working committee ।
